Best Day Trips from Paris, France

Updated: Dec 10, 2024

There are so many options with the great train system in France. You can go to the outskirts of Paris, or to a completely different country. The possibilities are endless.

1. Best Day Trips from Paris: Vincennes (4.2 mi, or 6.6 km from Paris)

We were staying in Paris for 4 weeks, so we decided to use the TRAINLINE app and take the train to the end of the line in Vincennes. We wanted to see a French Castle but didn't want the hassle that comes with going to Versailles with all the tourists and crowds. The Chateau de Vincennes (the castle), and Sainte-Chapelle de Vincennes (the Chapel) are right next to one another so we were able to see both amazing places with just a short train ride. Vincennes is in the eastern suburbs of Paris, so it is a quick and easy day trip.

2. Giverny (46 miles, or 75.2 km, from Paris )

Giverny is the home of Monet's House and Garden. We visited the April 1 which was the opening day for the season. While the water lilies were not yet in full bloom, the garden was still very beautiful and worth the visit. We left Paris at 8 am from Saint-Lazare Train Station and arrived in Vernon approximately an hour and a half later. Vernon is the town next to Giverny. There is a train right outside of the station that will drop you off at the parking lot for Monet's Garden. There was an extra cost for the train.
